Dev Log #4 – The Shape of the Valley

Early game development often looks less like building a finished world and more like sketching the outline of one.

This week I spent time experimenting with the first rough layouts for the valley surrounding Hearthvale. At the moment the terrain is still made up of placeholder shapes and simple textures, but the goal is to start defining how players will move through the environment and discover new areas.

Exploration is going to play a major role in the experience. Rather than guiding players through strict paths, the valley is designed to slowly open up as players learn how different parts of the world respond to sound.

Even in this early stage it’s exciting to see how the landscape itself can guide players toward discoveries without needing obvious directions.

The oldest records describe the dragons not as rulers of the valley, but as its guardians.

They were said to watch over the land, appearing only when the balance of the world began to shift.

Most people today believe those stories are simply myths. But every now and then, someone claims to have seen something moving quietly along the distant ridgelines at dusk.

Development will continue with expanding the first playable area and refining some of the early interaction mechanics.
